Position Summary Centennial College is seeking a Health and Wellness Education Coordinator to develop, implement and assess initiatives to support and engage our students in maintaining and enhancing their overall wellbeing.

Reporting to the Director, Equitable Learning, Health, and Wellness, the Coordinator will oversee and deliver existing and new services to enhance upstream mental health and wellbeing student support. The incumbent will outreach and collaborate with students on peer support initiatives, liaise with campus and community partners, and design wellness and intervention training, consultation, and education. The incumbent will also work closely with internal and external programs and community resources to ensure students are aware and have access to a variety of well-being supports and services in and outside of the college.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead implementation of evidence-based wellness education and communications strategies, informed by the student life cycle within each campus, program and predictable cycles of student need
  • Conduct a systematic review of digital information and web presence of student health and wellness initiatives, informed by deep data analytics and engagement data - ensure web content remains current, simple, and aligned with student / stakeholder engagement and needs from digital information
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to develop and coordinate the implementation of independent learning opportunities (i.e., passive programming) and collective learning experiences (including psychoeducational workshops) relating to topics that foster and promote healthy campus communities (e.g., healthy relationships, safe drinking practices, etc.)
  • Facilitate selection, training, and ongoing supervision of Peer Supporters who support peer outreach and education through: class visits, independent learning initiatives, large scale workshops, presence at fairs and large events, and coordinating departmental social media engagement
  • Support the development of intensive peer support programs, including:
    • Logistical coordination, functional guidance, and direction of peer support services (active listening, connection) within the CALCS service model
    • Coordination of curricular and co-curricular peer-facilitated intensive programming (e.g., Thriving in Action, Wellness Workshops, Centennial Talks)
    • Guidance for partnering College peer support programs in academic departments
    • Coordination of external peer support initiatives directly partnered with CALCS
  • Conduct ongoing research and engagement within related communities of practice to monitor emerging trends and best practices which may inform resource development, programming, and partnership opportunities
  • Coordinate College efforts in recruiting participation, marketing, and communicating the findings resulting from the National College Health Assessment
  • Work closely with Institutional Research and Planning in data interpretation, benchmarking provincially and nationally, and designing reporting metrics for broader consumption
  • Identify additional opportunities to integrate evidence-based practices into the portfolio and support the department in their efforts to communicate results and leverage data

Qualifications/Experience

  • Four (4) year degree and/or equivalent education in a field related to mental health, health sciences, and/or social sciences; combination of relevant education and experiences would be considered
  • Certification, training or professional designation in Mental Health, Counselling Techniques, Education, Leadership, or Student Affairs and Services would be an asset
  • Minimum three (3) years' progressive experience providing guidance and oversight of peer support programs with a focus on mental health and wellness, counselling techniques, or equivalent
  • Experience supporting students (both one-on-one and in group settings) in building skills related to social connection, resilience, coping, personal capacity for health, and other dimensions of well-being
  • Demonstrated communication skills - including culturally inclusive active listening and appropriate non-verbal communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical aptitude; experience working in educational settings a definite asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision with a high independence of action
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a diverse collaborative team environment
  • Excellent ability to analyze and interpret assessment and benchmarking data to inform practice
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Grant writing experience an asset
