The Onsite Safety Officer will oversee the Safety efforts of a large-scale construction project with multiple high-rise buildings on one campus in Cambridge. On-site Safety Officers report to the Director of Safety, Jason Kiely. This position requires an understanding of construction safety and the ability to implement aspects of Company, Contractor, Client, State, and Federal Regulations.
Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam (or Adobe) software
Experience with web-based platforms (Google, SmartSheet, BlueBeam Studio, DropBox, Sharepoint, ProCore)
Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of computers, and network structure
Possesses excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize workload, to be able to complete tasks on time
Self-motivated. The ability to make decisions and stay productive without assistance
Possesses a strong attention to detail
Duties to include (but not limited to):
Conduct regular documented Safety Audits of the project.
Conduct thorough incident / injury investigations.
Document / submit required inspections (MEWP, GFCI, PFAS, etc.)
Attend Safety meetings onsite with General Contractor.
Perform Toolbox Talks weekly with the crews onsite.
Inspect the work processes.
Conduct and document Job Hazard Analysis for high-risk activities
Conduct awareness level or competent person training for crews.
Work with project management teams and field workers to develop and implement solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
Perform inspections of tools and equipment.
Perform investigations as needed.
Training company employees on safe work practices.
Uphold the standards defined within company discipline policies
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related subject. (or relative fi eld experience in construction; or combination of both)
Must have direct, full-time experience as a Safety Professional in a construction safety position (or experience relative to Electrical Construction)
QUALIFICATIONS / ABILITIES REQUIRED AT HIRE:
OSHA 30-hour certification (minimum)
OSHA OTI certification(s)
NFPA-70e safety certifications (preferred)
Ability to access heights via ladders or scaffolding (a significant amount of construction work takes place at heights above ground level, and could require evaluation)
Work in outdoor and indoor construction settings, and must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods.
Should be comfortable conducting toolbox talks with the workforce
Must have experience writing a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
Ability to gather information through questioning individuals and by examining records and documents.
Ability to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in logical sequence.
Ability to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures.
Ability to determine proper format and procedure for assembling items of information.
Ability to prepare general reports.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to prepare and use charts, graphs and tables.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression.
Ability to give written and oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
Ability to deal tactfully with others.
Ability to establish rapport and maintain harmonious working relationships with persons from varied ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds.
