A career as a Senior Mortgage Underwriter in the Optimum Mortgage team at National Bank is to support clients in achieving home ownership by providing tailored mortgage solutions through our Broker channel. This job allows you to have a positive impact on the organization through your credit evaluation skills, commitment to risk management, and collaborative approach to client-focused underwriting.

Your job

  • Provide detailed and analytical credit decisions on complex mortgage applications in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Establish profitable and low-risk lending parameters, including pricing, terms, and conditions, aligned with client needs and institutional guidelines.
  • Ensure all underwriting decisions align with internal risk appetite and comply with legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements, including AML/ATF and KYC.
  • Partner with Mortgage Documentation Officers and provide mentorship to support team development and growth.
  • Identify and recommend innovative, flexible mortgage solutions tailored to the unique needs of borrowers.
  • Maintain composure and efficiency in a fast-paced, sales-driven environment while delivering exceptional client service.
  • Collaborate effectively across departments to support seamless operations and resolution-focused outcomes.

Within the Optimum Mortgage business line, you are part of a team of dedicated mortgage underwriting professionals, reporting to the Section Manager. Basic requirements

  • Experience in residential mortgage underwriting, ideally within a broker channel or financial institution.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of industry legislation and compliance practices including AML/ATF, Privacy, and KYC.
  • Technologically proficient and comfortable working with mortgage systems and tools.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
  • A passion for providing creative and client-focused solutions in a high-volume environment.
