Role Summary

This role reports to the Director of Food & Beverage. As a Wine Sommelier at JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka, you will elevate the guest dining experience by curating exceptional wine pairings, maintaining an expertly crafted wine list, and sharing your passion for wine through engaging service and staff education. This role is ideal for someone with a refined palate, strong hospitality instincts, and a desire to contribute to a world-class resort experience.

Accountabilities

• Present, open, and serve wine and champagne with precision and professionalism.

• Answer guest questions or concerns regarding the origin, vintage, and style of various wines.

• Update and maintain wine list and MICROS system.

• Provide expert recommendations and pairings to complement menu offerings.

• Collaborate with vendors and attend tastings to source new selections.

• Request new wines and products. Create and update wine lists.

• Design and implement wine promotions and incentive programs.

• Monitor and replenish inventory of wine cellar, equipment, and glassware. Train and educate server and bartender staff.

• Conduct staff wine tastings. Secure liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas.

• Follow laws for serving alcohol responsibly. Maintain accurate spill sheet.

• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, and support team to reach common goals.

• Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.

• Welcome and acknowledge each guest with a smile, eye contact and a friendly verbal greeting using the guests’ names when possible

• Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program

• Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

• Must be able to work flexible hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holiday

• Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print). Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift.

• Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.

• Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

• Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces as well as up and down stairs and/or service ramps.

• Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.

Requirements

• Education: Sommelier training diploma required.

• Experience: Minimum 2 years in a sommelier or wine steward role, ideally in a luxury or resort setting.

• Skills: Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and food pairings; excellent communication and presentation skills.

• Certifications: WSET 3, Smart Serve certification required; sommelier certification is an asset.
