Full-Time, Contract

Mactier, Ontario

Reports to: Supervisor, Camp Programs

Direct Reports: No

Rate: $17.54 / hour

Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada’s oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Specialist, Inclusion Support to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for ‘kids of all ages’ with sight loss, and their families!

Your Impact at CNIB

  • Energetically and inclusively support recreation programs (e.g., crafts, games, campfires etc.) for seniors, adults, youth and family guests, including waterfront activities and off-site excursions.  

  • Facilitate sensory room sessions for guests, as scheduled.  

  • Complete appropriate documentation regarding guest experience in the sensory room and any additional support that guests required during their week at camp.  

  • Create tools and resources that can be used to support a guests’ success in Lake Joe’s overnight programs. 

  • Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties, including serving meals, meal set up and clean up.

  • On a rotational basis, be part of the emergency response team, which includes being on call, present on site and available to respond to emergencies.  

  • During the spring season: Setting up program areas and ensuring that all required resources are available and helping with small maintenance tasks.

Requirements

Who you are:

Education and Certifications

  • Education in the field of Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Development Services Worker or similar field is an asset.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy and communication. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours as well as standard camp hours in a changing and busy environment. 
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Work Environment

  • This position may require the ability to work occasional overtime/flex time. 

  • This position may have to deal with challenging situations and/or people.

  • Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic and busy environment, with frequent interruptions.

  • Possibility to reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff member.
