Year 11 Economics & Year 9 Civics Teacher - Upper School - Australian Curriculum (WACE)

January OR April 2026 Start

We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Economics and Civics teacher to join our team for the January 2026 school year. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching our required Year 9 Civics course and the two-year WACE Economics ATAR elective course (Years 11-12) for students who are bilingual or native speakers of English.

Responsibilities

Primary Teaching Responsibilities

  • Year 9 Civics (Required Course):
  • Teaching comparative government and fundamental economics principles and concepts
  • Developing students' understanding of citizenship, civic participation, and social responsibility
  • Fostering critical thinking about political and economic systems
  • Years 11-12 WACE Economics ATAR Course (Elective):
  • Year 11: Unit 1 (Microeconomics), Unit 2 (Macroeconomics)
  • Year 12: Unit 3 (Australia and the global economy), Unit 4 (Macroeconomic theory and economic policy)
  • Preparing students for WACE & ATAR examinations
  • Teaching economic theory, models, and real-world applications with emphasis on the Australian economy
  • Developing students' analytical and quantitative skills for economic reasoning

General Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing lessons targeting specific economic concepts and civic knowledge
  • Managing classroom behavior to keep all students engaged in learning
  • Providing individual support and feedback for students at varying levels of understanding
  • Teaching PBL (Problem- and Project-Based Learning) style lessons
  • Using economic data, current events, and case studies to illustrate theoretical concepts
  • Preparing comprehensive assessment tasks including investigations, data interpretation, and examinations
  • Developing students' skills in economic inquiry and civic reasoning

Additional Responsibilities

  • Teaching other Social Studies or STEAM/Research classes if required
  • Homeroom duties and pastoral care responsibilities

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Economics, Political Science, Education, or related field
  • Teaching License
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching Economics and/or Social Studies at the high school level
  • Strong knowledge of economic principles, theories, and models across microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts
  • Understanding of comparative government systems and democratic institutions
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation in economic contexts
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to create engaging lesson plans that promote critical thinking and analytical reasoning
  • Proficient in technology use for instruction purposes, including economic modeling software and data analysis tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Economics, Political Science, or Education
  • 5 years teaching experience at the Secondary Level
  • Experience with the Australian curriculum system (WACE or other States)
  • Strong knowledge of the WACE Economics curriculum and assessment requirements
  • Experience with external examination preparation (WACE or similar systems)
  • Background in teaching comparative government or civics education
  • Experience teaching international or ESL students
  • Familiarity with contemporary economic issues and their policy applications
  • Experience with mathematical applications in economics contexts
