About this role

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) for Professional Services will lead and implement comprehensive HR initiatives to support the Professional Services (Wholesale) organization, covering all office-based commercial and enabling functions, excluding retail management. Serving as a strategic advisor to business leaders, this role provides expert counsel across the full employee lifecycle—including talent acquisition, onboarding, offboarding, compliance, policy implementation, process optimization, organizational development, succession planning, employee engagement, and leadership development.
A core responsibility of this role is to enhance the leadership capabilities of people managers and to drive organizational change in a dynamic, fast-paced business environment. Success in this role requires strong partnerships with senior internal stakeholders, excellent communication skills, deep business acumen, and the ability to design and deliver forward-thinking HR solutions that align with evolving business needs.
This position is based in Tokyo and may require occasional domestic travel. While there are no initial people management responsibilities, the role is expected to grow with the business and may expand to include the supervision of a Junior HRBP as organizational demands increase.


What You’ll Do

  • Partner with executive leadership to identify business needs and align HR strategies to support organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to proactively address talent gaps by identifying critical roles and staffing requirements.
  • Co-lead and support the full recruitment cycle for high-priority positions, including job description development, candidate screening, and interviews.
  • Assist the HR Director in managing and monitoring the HR budget and related financial planning activities.
  • Design and implement innovative HR strategies that drive business performance and employee engagement.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs, including the in-house digital learning platform Leonardo and external providers.
  • Support the HR Director in executing workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational restructuring initiatives.
  • Localize and implement global HR projects in collaboration with regional and global HR teams.
  • Address and resolve employee relations matters promptly and professionally.
  • Identify coaching and development needs across all employee levels and propose tailored solutions.
  • Independently manage and resolve performance-related issues in alignment with company policies.
  • Lead and drive key HR initiatives that contribute to a high-performing culture.
  • Leverage knowledge of employment law to resolve complex employee relations cases in collaboration with leadership and legal teams.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years of HR experience, preferably within the fast-paced FMCG or Retail sector.
  • Proven ability to strategically lead, influence, and effectively support HR initiatives.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a results-driven approach.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills combined with a proactive, can-do “make it happen” attitude.
  • Effective persuasive and coaching communication skills, comfortable engaging with both large and small groups.
  • Good understanding of Japanese labor laws and regulations.
  • Strong people sense with excellent leadership intuition.
  • Proficient in MS Office and SAP HR systems.
  • Fluent in English and Japanese.
